Pininfarina will show this new Alfa Romeo-based concept car at the 2010 Geneva motor show. Minnow Saab has struck a deal with BMW, one of the world's largest premium car makers, to supply powertrains for future models, including the next 9-3 and proposed 9-1 supermini. Munich will provide Saab with four-cylinder petrol 1.6 turbo engines from 2012 and the full suite of Efficient Dynamics tech will be included. The deal is being signed today by Ian Robertson, marketing board member of BMW AG, and the CEO of Saab Automobile, Jan Åke Jonsson, in Trollhättan.How can Saab afford to buy BMW engines?No financial or volume details have been announced yet.

Mercedes-Benz researchers call it the ‘one-second nap’ – that instant when fatigue overcomes you at the wheel on a long trip and you wake up in hospital. To counter dozing off while driving, which Mercedes claims accounts for a quarter of all major motorway accidents, its engineers have developed an innovative driver support system called Attention Assist. As well as registering linear and lateral acceleration, indicator and pedal operation and vehicle speed, the system also monitors steering response - the most important indicator of fatigue according to Mercedes, is tired drivers have difficulty in keeping their vehicle precisely on track.
